Men's 2006 Grand Prix Standings

Under 15

Final Standings:  Jason Kenyon clinches the under 15, 2006 GP Championship!

Post MP&W:  Ryan Vosecky medals and moves into 3rd.  Mitchell in 2nd is the only one left who could possibly catch Jason, but to do so, Jason would have to be idle at MHSCC, and would have to score 932 points (seeing as he has already run 6 and only his 6 best go towards his season total).

Post Wild Cat Den:  Jason and Mitchell remain in 1st and 2nd, while Shane and Ryan add their 3rd and 5th race efforts.  Good job, guys!

Post Stampede:  As has been the case in past, the top 10 all run the Stampede.  Jason Kenyon adds a fourth race and gains a slim lead over Mitchell Shellady.

Post Fair:  Mitchell and Jason are close, with Kevin, Keegan and Ryan also adding to their point total right behind...

7/9/06:  Mitchell Shellady rises to the top of the division with his third race of the year!  Shane VanDeMaat, of Team VanDeMaat, enters the Top 10 in 5th with a very strong showing at Grandview.

Post Malachy:  Keegan Mente jumps up to 4th place with his Malachy effort!

Post HNI:  Great to see three runners hitting both of the first two races!  We've seen young Mr. Hughes in years past, less so of Mr. Kenyon and Mr. Shellady.  Welcome aboard.

15-29

Post MHSCC:  Nick Hasty and Rodney Kirk Jr., upgrade with their 7th race efforts of the year, while Josh Fick adds a 4th outright victory to his GP point totals, sandwiched between and around track and cross country feats.

Post MP&W:  Sabino upgrades running his best points race of the season by far and clinches his first Grand Prix age division championship!  Sabino also sets a new season points record for the 15-29 division!  Rodney Kirk Jr., adds a six race effort and to his season point total, securely in 4th.

Post Wild Cat Den:  Sabino gets his 6th race in and takes over 1st!  Nick does likewise and lands in 2nd.  Rodney adds a 5th race and is solidly in 4th.

Post Stampede:  Top three performances of the day in this division including Mr. Fick's third victory of the year.  Sabino Rangel takes advantage of an idle Curtis Bowden and is 103 points out of first.

Post Fair:  Big performances at the Fair and big point totals amassed by the top 5 to date!

7/9/06:  Curtis Bowden, Nick Hasty and Josh Fick, all part of the Muscatine High School Cross Country stable of runners add to other race efforts and find themselves in 1st, 3rd and 4th.  Sabino Rangel is squarely in 2nd and in good position to be a late-season factor in determining who wins this very competitive division.

Post Malachy:  Curtis Bowden wins at Malachy and jumps into 1st place.  Nick Hasty also adds points and is now in 4th.

Post HNI:  The informal team of Rangel and Kirk amass points in the first two races and keep ahead of the Muscatine High School Track and Cross Country out-of-season contingency.

Post MHSCC:  Eric Walsh and Eric Wortman duel again, this time with Mr. Walsh coming in ahead of Mr. Wortman.  Great back-to-back race finishes that so much to do with two runners running closely enough together that they probably ran faster than they would have been able to do on their own.  Truly a joy to watch!  (Look at Eric and Eric's season point totals.  5 points separate the two runners.)  Eric Walsh also establishes a new Personal Record for points in a season!

Additionally, GP newcomer, Kurt Schlawin (Schla-veen) upgrades with his 7th race effort of the year.  Good year, Kurt!

Post MP&W:  Eric Walsh is part of one of the great Power & Water "duels to the finish" and is so doing, clinches GP Championship #3!  Ray Lukkarinen and Kurt Schlawin each add a sixth race to their strong season performances.

Post Wild Cat Den:  Eric, Ray, Joe, Kurt Brian and Christopher all race well and add to their point totals on the beautiful trails of WCD!

Post Stampede:  8 of the top 10 race at the Stampede.  Besides Eric and Ray, Joe Froehlich, Kurt Schlawin and Christopher Allbright add to their point totals their third, fourth and fifth races of the year.  Good job guys!

Post Fair:  A hot day and a hot division!  1 and 2 are close, as are 3, 4 and 5.

7/9/06:  Ray Lukkarinen adds a second race to his point total and jumps into 2nd place.  Here is hoping that Mr. Walsh and Mr. Lukkarinen can juggle their schedules to each race four of the next five races, max their points and make this division so close that it won't be decided until MHSCC!

Post Malachy:  Mr. Walsh is back in the U.S.A. and back atop the division!

Post HNI:  Joe Froehlich finds himself atop the age division leader board for the first time!

35-39

10/13:  Error noted.  Mark Latta's 3-race total is 1663 and the scoreboard now accurately reflects as much.

Post MHSCC:  Rick Last runs #8 and upgrades again while Jeremy Oepping upgrades with his 7th effort!

Post MP&W:  Jeremy Oepping gets a sixth race and busts the 5000 points barrier for the season!  Rick Last upgrades and  Brad Hahn has now put together a couple of very strong GP races!

Post Wild Cat Den:  Lee upgrades and Rick Last adds his 6th race of the year, both substantial accomplishments in their own right.

Post Stampede:  Lee Hammerand clinches his 4th consecutive Grand Prix Championship by mathematically eliminating his closest competitor, the formidable John Fletcher.  Congrats to Lee and good job to all the men in this division!

Post Fair, more big numbers for these guys.  Amazing seasons indeed!

7/9/06:  Lee, Fletch, Jeremy and Rick each add to their season point totals, an impressive season both individually and collectively!

Post Malachy:  The strongest, deepest age division after three races!  Lee with a slight lead, but jostling behind him and several folks headed for personal records for points in a season independent of who ends up winning the division.

Post HNI:  Lee Hammerand is back in 1st place, with John Fletcher moving to 2nd with a strong showing in the headwinds of HNI.  Jeremy Oepping is indeed in only one age division this year and thus is securely in 3rd for the time being.

Post MHSCC:  Eric Wortman clinches his 2nd consecutive GP Championship!  Ernesto Venzor and Steve Vosecky run all nine races and finish in 2nd and 3rd!  7 of the top 10 in this division race at MHSCC.  Amazing!

Post MP&W:  This division won't be decided until MHSCC!  Ernesto upgrades and Eric wins outright!  Steve moves into 3rd with his upgrade and Brian Doerres breaks into the Top10 with his third effort of the year.

Post Wild Cat Den:  6 of the Top 10 race!  Outstanding!  Ernesto retains his position at the top, Eric gains a bit of ground and Steve "upgrades."

Post Stampede:  Ernesto Venzor remains in 1st place with his sixth race effort, and Steve Vosecky is in 2nd with his sixth as well.  Both runners can now attempt to "upgrade" their point totals during the last third of the season.

Post Fair:  Herr Wortman jumps over Steve and Kent and picks up some ground on Ernesto.  Good job Ernesto and Steve for hitting the first 5 races of the year!  Soon you will both be in a position to "upgrade" to take your six best efforts.

7/9/06:  Mr. Venzor keeps 1st place, while Kent Ferris and Steve Vosecky add to their point totals with their 3rd and 4th races of the season.

Post Malachy:  Maybe not as deep as the Men's 35-39 division, but still good to see 4 participants racing well and often!  The only GP division with 3 past GP age division winners in it.

Post HNI:  Past GP winner, Ernesto Venzor is in 1st place with relative GP newcomer, Steve Vosecky in 2nd.

7/9/06:  And just the like the preceding age division, this one is very close with Tony having a scant 11 point lead over Fernando after 4 races!
