Men's Grand Prix Scoreboard, 2004
Men's -30
Brett Williams.
10/10/04: The race to the finish finds Brett Williams clinching the division! If there were such a title, Jordan Sothmann, who upgraded his point total at MHS CC and secured 2nd place for the season, would no doubt be Rookie of the Year! The success achieved this year with the Grand Prix is due in large part to the many race efforts given by the under-30 runners! The future of running in Muscatine is bright!
9/21/04: Jordan is still in 1st. Ryan Nicholson's points have been straightened out and he's in 4th. Last year's winner, Chris Mann, is right behind in 5th.
9/11/04: Jordan upgrades his point total at Wild Cat Den and regains 1st place. Frank Canady jumps to 5th place.
8/23/04: Post-Stampede: Brett Williams takes over 1st place! Jordan Sothmann is in 2nd, but by the narrowest of margins! (and from hereon, Jordan is racing to push out lower race scores, since only the top 6 races figure into a runner's total...) 9 of the top 10 runners in the age division competed at the Watermelon Stampede!
8/11/04: Jordan Sothmann remains in 1st place after Kokjohn! The top 6 runners in this age division all ran this last race. The Stampede will tell us much about how this division plays out for the rest of the year. One thing that may happen at the Stampede is that if Brett Williams, Josh and Brandon Fick and Craig Crile race, and if they race as they have been, they may score more points than young Jordan. But what will also happen, if Jordan runs and has a performance comparable to ones he has already posted, is that he will stand to score more points than one or two of his other races because there will be more runners in the race (and more participants behind him). There are lots of "ifs" I know, but another part of this division after the Stampede, will be to see how many of the leaders head off to their high school and cross country teams for the year and say "so long" to the Grand Prix. I know less about competitors Jarid Wagner and Donovan Devore and thus wouldn't even begin to predict an eventual winner, but what I will say is the Jordan Sothmann has raced consistently this year and has earned his 1st place spot that he is in right now. (Don't forget too, that once a runner has finished 6 races, any races thereafter can be used to "upgrade" your point total. We only add a runner's six best races. If Jordan wins the GP, he might very well do so on the strength of one or more "upgrades.")
7/25/04: After the Fair Run, Jordan Sothmann stays in 1st place. Brett Williams moves from 8th to 2nd. Craig Crile, Fair Run overall winner, enters the standings in 3rd place.
7/4/04: Jordan stays in 1st following HON/HNI! Kevin Hughes jumps from 12th to 4th!
6/22/04: Here is a twist: For the first time in a LONG time, the first two races of the season go to the under-30 men. Brandon Fick shows convincing speed pulling away from his competition at Malachy and finds himself tied for 2nd in the standings. Jordan Sothmann, on the strength of two early-season performances, leads this very competitive division.
