Women's Grand Prix Scoreboard, 2004

Women's -30

Nazee Jabbari having accepted an age division award from Coach Washburn at the Stampede.

10/9/04:  The news for this division at MHS CC:  6 of the top 10 in the division participate and Jill Hughes adds a victory!  This age division has been fantastic this year!  Thank all of you for racing often and strengthening the depth of the races!

9/20/04:  With MP&W, Nazee clinches the division!

9/11/04:  Nazee adds to her lead...

8/27/04:  I switched Nazee and her mother's points at Stampede.  She actually scored 836, not 645.  -Kent

8/25/04:  Post Stampede sees Andrea Castanon and Jill Hughes creep closer to Nazee Jabbari, but they remain in 3rd and 2nd place, just behind Ms. J.  Carmen Peterson jumps up into 4th.

8/11:  Post Kokjohn race finds Nazee Jabbari in 1st and Andrea up on to 3rd!

7/24/04:  Jill Hughes takes over 1st place!  Nazee Jabbari jumps from 13th to 2nd.  Caithlin Holmquist does likewise from 15th to 3rd.

7/1/04:  After HON/HNI, Andrea Castanon jumps from 14th to 1st place!  HON/HNI overall female winner, Molly Fisher, enters the Standings in 2nd Place!

6/20/04:  With a 2nd place overall finish at Malachy, Katie Schlutz enters the GP in 3rd place!

Women's 30-34

Kandice Tjebkes, 30-34 Women's leader.

10/9/04:  With MHS CC, GP Stalwart, Becky Zeck moves up to finish in 3rd...

9/20/04:  Make it two years in a row, Kandice clinches the division after MP&W!

9/11/04:  The entire top 15 in this age division is idle at Wild Cat Den.  And it was such a nice day...

8/25/04:  We see the return of Kandice at Stampede, learn it wasn't surgery, and hope she is watching the injury that slowed her briefly in her rearview mirror.  Shelly Engler makes the big jump into 2nd place!

8/11:  Post Kokjohn race sees Stacy Olson take the huge jump from 6th to 2nd.  Did I read in the paper that Kandice Tjebkes is recovering from knee surgery?  Here is hoping that recovery goes well, if indeed Ms. Tj had surgery...

7/24/04:  No changes in the top 5 here after the Fair Run.

7/1/04:  Kandice adds to her lead with a third place overall finish for the women at HON/HNI (and first female HON/HNI finisher)!  Shelly Engler jumps from 8th to 3rd.  Kori Brown and Cheryl Woepking enter the Standings in 4th and 5th respectively.

6/20/04:  Kandice Tjebkes wins Malachy, scores 1000 points and adds to her early season GP lead!  Becky Zeck, 4th overall at Malachy jumps to 2nd place in the standings!  Tammy Nowling, from the Carolinas, is 3rd overall at Malachy is in 5th place.

Women's 35-39

Lisa Hughes.

9/20/04:  Although Lisa has crossed over into the next age division now, her points and championship remain in the division she started the season in.  What does one do when one has already clinched?  Celebrate by adding a 5th overall individual race championship!  Will she race on the grass at MHS to end the season, pursue one more individual championship, and try to complete a 2nd perfect, 6000 season?  Go Lisa!

9/11/04:  Lisa Hughes win her 4th race of the GP Season!

8/25/04:  Lisa Hughes is 2nd overall at the Stampede, and in so doing, clinches her 2nd consecutive Grand Prix Championship!  Heidi Bermel and Connie Mann move into 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

8/11/04:  Lisa Hughes wins the Kokjohn, making it 3 of 4 and inches ever closer to clinching the division early as she did last year!

7/24/04:  Lisa Hughes wins the Fair Run, as she did last year and becomes the first runner, man or woman to notch two victories this season!

7/1/04:  Lisa Hughes adds to her division lead with a 2nd place overall finish for the women at HON/HNI!  Joni Jackson, Sue Calegan and Lora Earnest enter the 35-39 GP Standings in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively.

6/20/04:  An entire age division is idle at Malachy.

4/6/04:  Lisa Hughes wins her fifth straight Hayes Hustle and in so doing, finds herself in familiar territory atop the Women's 35-39 division.

Women's 40-44

Teri Lyon.

10/9/04:  This division's top-3 runners averaged 8 races this season!  Very few divisions can say that.  Thank you Teri, Jean and Daphne!

9/20/04:  With MP&W, Teri and Jean upgrade their point totals.  Daphne "the iron woman" Donald is the only GP female competitor, in any division, to race in the first 8 races of the season!

9/11/04:  Much racing at Wild Cat Den in the division means things keep close at the top, but Teri Lyon mathematically clinches the division!  Daphne Donald runs her 7th race of the year, drops her lowest score (from Malachy) and upgrades her "top 6 best races" point total.

8/25/04:  Teri, Daphne and Jean stay at the top of this division!  7 of the top 10 runners in the division raced at the Stampede!

8/11:  Post Kokjohn finds the the top three keeping their places with Teri Lyon adding slightly to her lead!  Unlike last year however, it appears that Daphne Donald and Jean Pfeiffer intend to keep company with Teri and make it a race through the Fall!

7/24/04:  Teri Lyon takes over 1st place!  Daphne Donald does likewise jumping from 3rd to 2nd place with her 4th race of the year.

7/1/04:  Jean Pfeiffer remains in 1st place!  Teri Lyon jumps into 2nd and Daphne Donald remains in 3rd.  218 points separate these three runners!

6/20/04:  Big changes at the top of the 40-44 leaderboard!  Jean Pfeiffer and Daphne Donald, on the strength of their Malachy efforts, move to 1st and 2nd place in the division!

4/6/04:  Teri Lyon, leader of the Women's 40-44 division after the Hayes Hustle.

Women's 45-49

Leader, Laurie Canady.

10/9/04:  Paula Gillespie was the only Top-10 runner in this division to run MHS CC.  Here is hoping we see her at races more next year, along with the rest of the women in this division.  It would make for an even more competitive GP!  Thanks to all, those from Muscatine, and those with dual citizenship (Laurie and Muriel, to name a few...)

9/20/04:  Laurie Canady runs well at MP&W and clinches the division for the 2nd straight year!

9/11/04:  Laurie Canady retains 1st place.  Muriel Naumann moves closer...

8/25/04:  The Stampede saw 7 of the top 10 runners in this division compete!  Fantastic!  Laurie and Lisa are posting big GP numbers.  There are two ways to look at this:  1.  Laurie doubled her lead over Lisa at the Stampede or 2.  as with the Olympics, 1st place is .5% ahead of 2nd.  Muriel Naumann has a good day at the Stampede too, scoring big GP points and winning the Over-40 category.  She has now won 6 Stampede Championships!

8/11/04:  Will you look at this?  8 points separate Laurie Canady and Lisa Longtin!  With the Stampede next and Muriel Naumann's many years of success at that race, this will be one of the very best, most competitive divisions from here to when the leaves change!  Go get 'em!

7/24/04:  Muriel Naumann, the only present GP runner, man or woman, to have at least one race effort listed on Fitness Sport's "All-Time Best" Iowa age division road race performances, moves from 3rd to 2nd.  Muriel is still one tough runner!  Kirsten Holmquist moves from 4th to 3rd.

7/1/04:  Laurie Canady increases her lead!  Lisa jumps from 4th to 2nd.  Paula Gillespie and Deb Sluman enter the Standings in 5th and 6th place.

6/20/04:  Laurie Canady regains 1st place in the division with her Malachy effort!  Lisa Longtin enters the standings in 4th place.

4/6/04:  Muriel Naumann, seen here after the Hayes Hustle in '03, finds herself in 1st place in the 45-49 Women's division after the '04 Hustle as well.  Last year's 45-49 winner, Laurie Canady is in 2nd.

Women's 50-54

Nancy Shell at the Stampede.

10/9/04:  Nancy Shell clinches at MHS  CC!  Thank you, Nancy and Fate, for participating in the races in the GP Series!  Your efforts provided the Grand Prix with the closest competition of any division!

9/20/04:  Both Nancy and Fate are idle at MP&W, so this division will be decided on the grass at MHS CC in October.

9/11/04:  Nancy adds to her lead, but this remains one of the closest age divisions!

8/27/04:  Correction to GP Standings:  I have mistakenly assigned Nazee Jabbari's points to her mother, Fate's score.  Sorry for the error.  -Kent

8/25/04:  Post-Stampede:  Ms. Jabari and Ms. Shell remain in 1st and 2nd.  Last year's winner, Melanie Steckel, enters the standings in 3rd place.

8/11/04:  After Kokjohn, Ms. Jabbari and Ms. Shell remain in 1st and 2nd places!  Each have now met the minimum of three races and are thus eligible to win the division.  Also, they have run in two races against each other, with Ms. Jabbari finishing ahead of Ms. Shell, and then they reverse order at Kokjohn.  Plenty of excitement in this division as well!

7/24/04:  Fate Jabbari jumps all the way into 1st place!

7/1/04:  Nancy Shell jumps from 4th to 1st!  Deb Parizek enters the Standings in 3rd place.

Women's 60-64

JoAnn Jensen.

10/9/04:  JoAnn and Ann both race on the grass at MHS to finish their great seasons!  In so doing, both set new personal records for most points scored in a season (JoAnn scored 3715 and Ann scored 896 in 2003, the inaugural season of the Muscatine Grand Prix.)

9/20/04:  JoAnn mathematically clinches the division following the MP&W Run, her 2nd division title in as many years!

9/11/04:  JoAnn and Ann remain in 1st and 2nd, having both run the trails of Wild Cat Den.

8/25/04:  JoAnn and Ann remain in 1st and 2nd, but look at the number of folks who competed in the Stampede!  Outstanding!

8/11/04:  A change atop the leader board!  '03 GP winner, JoAnn Jensen, takes over 1st place, with Ann Shaffer right behind!

9/11/04:  Sue Koehrsen takes over 1st place with her effort at Wild Cat Den!
